Eggs abandoned 3 days before hatch date

Even after almost 22 roller pigeon eggs that hatched at my loft with 4 fledgers that went missing on training I still feel remorse when one of my pair abandoned their clutch 3 days before the target hatch date. They just got up and decided not to sit on the eggs anymore.broken pigeon egg-credits:Kirsty Hall [Flickr] After a few days I took out the eggs and it felt cold so I checked it as a DOA. I did candled the eggs and it was opaque so I’m pretty sure its developed and just ready to hatch.

Eventhough I know that a fully developed pip is inside the egg my curiosity still got the best in me so I decided to take a peek so I can stop wondering. I just added to my depression to see a life (or two) that wasn’t given a chance to see daylight.

Oh well, probably its still to early for that pigeon pair to breed but I’ll give them a few more days and try again.
